8 Things to Know Before Working with a Naturopathic Doctor for Infertility

Write Out a Timeline

Having a documented timeline of your fertility history and anything related to fertility health in prior years is very helpful when working on your case. Women, for example, it is helpful to have a history of female health challenges throughout your life, a general history of your period, history of birth control usage, pregnancy history and/or infertility history, and therapies you have tried in the past.

Have a Good Understanding of Your Period

Using a mobile period tracker can be very helpful here. Depending on your cause, 6 months to 1 year of cycles can be helpful during your initial consultation. Tracking symptoms like headaches, breast tenderness, cramping, mood changes, spotting, libido, and  bloating, can be helpful. As well as, knowing the number of days of bleeding, the length of your cycle, if you suspect ovulation and when and how you suspect ovulation (ovulation tests, basal body temperature tracking or through observation). Have 1-Week Diet Diary

Documenting what you have eaten over a week can give me insight into potential nutrient deficiencies, blood sugar issues, and even hormonal imbalance.

Set Aside Time

You will need to set aside time for our consultation, and time before the consultation to fill out our forms that will go into detail about your history. Our consultations tend to be longer than people are used to with the standard office visits in healthcare today.

Have Patience

It takes about 3-4 months to start seeing changes in regards to fertility. This is because true healing takes longer than hormonal control, suppression of symptoms, or stimulation of ovulation through medications. This is okay, and completely normal.

Copies of Bloodwork and Testing

Sharing a history of bloodwork and testing can give me insight without having to run testing of my own. It can help me see what has and hasn't been evaluated, what should be evaluated again, and what is looking good in regards to your hormones, fertility, and general health.

Have a List of Current Medications and Supplements

When evaluating a new client or couple, it is important for me to understand under what circumstances your state of health is existing. For example, if you are taking something for headaches, but don't report that you have headaches, I will know they are still part of your health history, you just are not experiencing them currently because of a medication or supplement. Odds are, if the supplement or medication are stopped, the headaches will return. This is the difference between suppression and healing.

History of Your General Health

All of your organ systems are connected. For example, it is important for me to understand your digestion, because if you are having trouble with absorption of nutrients, it can impact your hormones. This is just one simple example of many interconnections in your body, and a comprehensive history of your general health, can give me insight to things that may have been overlooked in the past.
